The Clinical Addictions Research Laboratory (CARL) was established in 1997 under the direction of Andrea King, PhD, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago.

The overarching mission of CARL is two-fold:
To determine factors that lead to excessive use of alcohol, tobacco, and other substances
|
To develop more effective interventions in the treatment of substance use disorders, particularly tobacco dependence |

Chicago Social Drinking Project (CSDP)

Virtual Interaction Project (VIP)
Project not actively enrolling This study examines how common tasks, such as viewing videos, impacts mood and health-related behaviors in adolescents and young adults with a wide variety of substance use patterns.
